Description: Oke Idanre Hill consists of high plain with several spectacular valleys interspersed of about 3,000 ft above sea level. Its physical attributes include Owa’s Palace, Shrines, Old Court, Belfry, Agboorogun foot print, thunder water (Omi Aopara) and burial mounds and grounds. It also has diverse and variegated eco-systems of flora and fauna. Oke Idanre contains very important bio-physical and land from features whose interaction with the physical features created an enduring cultural landscape within the setting.
Type of Work: VWAN history of engagement in World Heritage Volunteers campaign started in 2010 when a group of local and international volunteers were led to Idanre Hill to proactively engage themselves in restoration of the archaeological works of traditional value. Locally made trash bins for disposable and waste will be mounted in a conspicuous corner or points of the site. Also a Non Formal Education activities will be conducted with the support of literary materials from CCIVS and WHC in Paris. Volunteers will do self-catering and living together in the camp. Volunteers should be ready to mix up with the community and various youth groups during intercultural sessions.
Study Theme: HERITAGE / SOCIAL INTERCULTURAL
Accommodation: Volunteers will stay together in Accommodation provided near the project. A prepared venue for Tourist attraction Hostel will be used for lodging of the Volunteers. It has in-built facilities and conveniences with showers, running water and cooking facilities. There is also sporting recreational activities in an open fields for different games. Cooking will be done in turns and all other activities will be done together.
Language: The required official language is the camp is English and occasionally French.
Requirements: Requirement from Volunteer but flexible:
• Be motivated for the voluntary work
• Responsible to keep rules and exhibit cooperation throughout the project.
• Best efforts to understand and respect cultures both of the hosts and other volunteers
• Open minded to make friends and to speak English (within the groups) as official language
• To adapt and enjoy simple conditions of living
Approximate Location: The project is located at Odode Town in Idanre Community area of Ondo State. Volunteers will depart from Lagos together for the project. There is no extra cost for this travel.
Notes: Excursion and intercultural evening will be arranged by the host organisation from time to time during the project. Weekend will completely be free for volunteer to experience community participation in programmes. There will be social nights and cultural weekends. Intercultural activities to exhibit different cultural habits will be in vogue. Please kindly come with Music, Games and other local materials to exhibit during the workcamp (if available but not compulsory).
